Smith Family Road Trip

On Friday April 15 2011 our small family will be leaving the emerging British spring and will be setting off on an adventure...our flights are booked to and from the US, each step along the way has been meticulously planned...and yet our journey has not begun...

There's a tornado a-comin'!!!!!!

A brisk morning walk...
Our morning in Seaside Heights started ridiculously early and by 7.30am we had left the hotel and were enjoying an extremely brisk walk along the boardwalk...or a run in Benjamin's case. It is a shame we missed seeing it in action because even the shuttered up attractions got the boys excited - rooftop crazy golf across 4 rooftops with bridges in between anyone?

By 8.30 we were feasting on pancakes and waffles in the International House of Pancakes (I-HoP) in Toms River and then an easy drive down past Smithville singing 'We're the Kids in America - Whoa' over and over at the demands of the toddler and we hit Atlantic City!

Staying so close to the gambling capital of the East Coast was too much of a lure for these Vegas-a-holics and after a drive around seeing the sights we took turns browsing the shopping mall with the kids (or in my case running around in a blind panic looking for a dropped elephant - thankfully retrieved) so the 'free parent could grab 15 minutes on the slots! I am delighted to report that one of us came away up $6.50, I will leave you to guess which one of us it was...

Once again we took to the road and 45 minutes later we hit Wildwood, reportedly the 'Best Beach Town In America' and by 2pm we were once again on the Boardwalk on a blustery day where the rides on the piers were sadly closed, although this time more due to the weather. We spent some time in the amusements though and Jakey has all manner of tat to show for his efforts!

As driving rain took hold we dived into The Lobster Catch restaurant for a late lunch/early dinner and ate delicious local crabcakes and drank delicious local wine alongside a shark whom Benjamin named 'Gordon'. As we came out of the restaurant the sight of a couple being literally blown off their feet on the boardwalk gave us all the indications that we needed to grab some snacks and some beers and juice and cuddle ourselves up in our lovely 2 bedroom apartment for the evening with the heating on...boy it is cold here!!!

In the vain hope that tomorrow will be a little warmer we switched to the weather channel to see what mother nature has in store...an 80% chance of a tornado where we are headed apparently...good job we are gamblers by nature...
